Seven divers from the Autonomous University of BCS campus in La Paz (UABCS) have begun to study of all the marine life and conditions of the No-Take Zone of Nopolo, inside the Loreto Bay National Park. No-Take Zone means no fishing, no clamming, and no taking of anything. This zone serves as a nursery so fishing can continue to occur and thrive outside of the No-Take Zone.
The study is being conducted by students of UABCS La Paz, led by Dr. Hector Reyes Bonilla. All the members have taken the special courses for underwater biological monitoring.
This baseline study is the first to be done in Loreto Bay National Park. We need to scientifically study the volume and quality of marine life in the no fishing zones so that we can determine the evolution, beneficial impact and preservation effectiveness of the No-Take Zone over time. The marine park has 13 no fishing zones, so there is lots of work to be done.
This study is possible thanks to the generous support of the community, from Mexican businesses to private donations.
Special thanks to:

It takes a village to do environmental conservation. Thank you for being part of it!
