A sea of styrofoam! All this material was taken out of the coast line: from mesquite trees, from estuaries, from filtering through the sand on beach, from zargazo beds, from floating debris in the sea, from arroyos, and from canyons that lead to the sea and Marine Park of Loreto.
It’s about 25 bags of cups, plates, packing material and construction material found in Nopolo beach and down town Loreto. We stored it for 8 months and now we had the option of compacting it to make new material for the construction industry or donating it to a construction company as is. We are fortunate that Gerardo from "Isla Verde" took it to create construction material for making domes. Very cool constructions!
If you are a new resident, please dont buy styrofoam to hold food. If you plan to build, please request your contractor has a way for picking up this residue to recycling it or better to not use at all. If you are visitor to the beaches, arroyos or Sierra, please help us in picking this up.
We need to keep styrofoam out of chocolate clams, fish and wildlife of the desert. Its nasty stuff that liberates carcinogenic compounds into our food (if used as a plate) and into the food chain which will be our food too.
