Animal Rescue Efforts Continue

Keep Loreto Magical animal rescue efforts continue to expand and are both heart-warming and gratifying! Via a network of neighbors, we have built a support system to aid animals in distress in Loreto Municipality in Baja Ca Sur, Mexico. We help where we can.

It has not rained for more than 5 years in the Sierra La Giganta so this take a toll on desert life, and migrating birds. These animals are brought to us by community members and Marine Park staff. Last week we received a yellow-footed sea gull that appeared to be severely dehydrated and an osprey that hit an airplane at Loreto airport. Both arrived alive but after 24hrs they passed away.

Young mule deer in distress

Fully recovered after 5 weeks and ready for release!

Recently, this young male mule-deer arrived 21st May and with support of more than 15 volunteers has passed 5 weeks of treatment and is ready for release. We were very worried he had drank liquid from the raw sewage dumped by the City of Loreto into the urban area north of Loreto. We are so lucky he made it through the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication that was so painful to him. In a couple of days he will be released into the Sierra La Giganta to a ranch that does not hunt, has water year round and some other mule deer.

Mule deer are beautiful, help to provide nutrients for the soil, it little here and there and move along. They conserve their water in take very well. Unfortunately, poaching has driven this specie in Loreto to minimal numbers so they are seen to be like unicorns in the desert. May he live long and reproduce to share his life lesson with others.
