First Baseline study of Marine Park of Loreto begins!
Seven divers from UABCS La Paz have begun a scientific study of the marine life and conditions of the No-Take Zone inside the Loreto Bay National Park. “No-Take Zone” means no fishing, no clamming, and no taking of anything. This zone serves as a nursery so fishing in the marine park can continue to occur and thrive outside of the No-Take Zone. This is the first study of the No-Take Zone and will serve as a baseline to determine the health of the marine park over time.
Reef Site Remediation
In March 2022, the yacht VIXIT ran aground on an island reef in the Loreto Bay National Park, causing damage to coral reefs where 12 species of whales congregate every year. Thanks to the efforts of many individuals and organizations, including Keep Loreto Magical and The Ocean Foundation, the damage was assessed and remediated.
