Noche Magica Gala 2019

A Night to Remember…

Through the donations and efforts of so many—silent-auction providers, community volunteers, sponsors and donors, from Noplo and Loreto certainly but also from up and down the peninsula—Noche Magica 2019 was a magic night to remember.

The Foundation is endlessly indebted not only to those who wrote checks but also the many providers of “in kind” support and volunteer labor.

Among the many exciting adventures bid on in 2019 were:

  • a bird monitoring excursion with experts from the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and the Sonoran Institute

  • a trip to Cabo Pulmo for world-class diving within the marine sanctuary there

  • a journey to Tres Virgenes Volcano Biosphere Park in search of the pronghorn antelope and desert bighorn sheep

  • outrigger excursions into the Sea of Cortez

  • trips to Magdalena Bay for stays at the remote lighthouse at Cabo San Lazaro and for Loggerhead Turtle tagging with the ongoing turtle conservation program there,

  • camping in the protected lagoons of Magdalena Bay to enjoy the antics of the gray whales.

  • excursions into the Sierra with expert botanists studying the Cardon cactus or with herpetologists in search of the snakes of the Sierra

  • visits to the working ranches of San Basilio

  • boat trips to explore Carmen Island’s hidden secrets.

The artistic among us selected, and will be enjoying, a plein-air watercolor workshop celebrating the region’s wildlife on the team painting a wall-size community mural, learning the secrets of baking mesquite-flour bread, and weaving baskets from desert plants using ancient techniques.

2019’s Direct Donations to meaningful Causes

Attendees at our most recent event also made donations to directly fund the recertification of Loreto’s paramedics, conduct sampling for lead concentrations in Loreto’s children, expand the market for and thus list of recyclables from the Loreto area, and aid a scientific study seeking to return San Javier’s iconic olive trees to productivity.  Noche Magica attendees further subscribed to participate in underwater cleanup of abandoned fishing nets and in coastline sand dune restoration.
