Our Hiking Trails will have Humility

If the foothills of our Sierra de la Giganta are to be developed, the venues established there must have limited impact on the environment while attracting visitors and creating income for the tourism industry and owners of the rural lands. To that effect, with a group of volunteers, our foundation is mapping and creating a trail approximately twenty kilometers long through five different unique habitats. It will be just minutes away from the trans-peninsular highway but also lie within the proposed Nopolo Park.

An Adventure Awaits

This trail route, which connects some existing cattle trails, revives the ancestral roads carved out by the mule trains that moved goods between Loreto and San Javier for the Jesuit missionaries. To traverse its diverse landscapes is like visiting a series of museums created for the study of medicinal plants, ranch life, endemic species, archeological sites, and unique ecosystems of the Sierra. The length of the trail enables the international adventure travel industry to feature the Sierra in Loreto for full-day trips that compare to many in Costa Rica and other eco-tourism hot spots.

The trail has different entry points and exits that allow a range of hikers, from beginners to experienced outdoors persons, to explore the Sierra responsibly. Most importantly, it meets a need for health-supporting open spaces where people interact with the land and grow in their understanding of untouched Nature.
